Connecting Routes to the Hanshin Expressway

If a road that is set to be incorporated into the Hanshin Expressway system of connecting routes still has at least one section that is not yet completed and is not connected, as a temporary measure until the route is completed, Hanshin Expressway employs a system of connecting routes that incorporates non-toll roads.
The use of such connecting routes is considered a single passage on the expressway prior to or after the connection, so there is no need to pay a new toll fare at the connecting toll gate for vehicles paying in cash.

How to Use Connecting Routes

(1) Using ETC

All toll gates on connecting routes have a lane that allows passage without stopping, and the connection is applied. Even when there is an exit lane that issues a connection ticket, there is no need to go to that lane.

(2) Paying by Cash or non-wireless ETC

A connection ticket is issued at the connection ticket-issuing exit toll gate.
  • Route A westbound (No. 5 Wangan Route → No. 3 Kobe Route only)
Ask the toll gate worker for a connection ticket at an exit where connection tickets (nori-tsugi-ken) are issued.
  • Routes B, C, D
Ask the toll gate worker for a connection ticket (nori-tsugi-ken) at an exit where connection tickets are issued. (The Ohama exit on Route B issues a connection ticket by machine.)
Entrance toll gates and expressway toll gates issue a combined connection ticket and receipt/pass.
  • Route A eastbound (No. 3 Kobe Route → No. 5 Wangan Route only)
Take the combined connection ticket and receipt/pass when paying the toll at the No. 3 Kobe Route eastbound Ikutagawa entrance or entrances further west, on the No. 7 Kita-Kobe Route (except for the Nishinomiya-Yamaguchi-minami (eastbound) entrance, Karato-Higashi, Fusehata-Nishi and Zenkai-Nishi entrances), or at the No. 31 Kobe Yamate Route southbound entrance, or at an expressway toll gate.
  • Route A westbound (No. 5 Wangan Route → No. 3 Kobe Route only)
When connecting from the No. 5 Wangan Route to No. 3 Kobe Route Uozakihama entrance (only), press the button to issue a pass (receipt) on the ETC machine, and connect from the Rokko Island Kita exit. The issued pass also functions as a connection ticket, so hand it in at the entrance to the connecting route.

Connections are Time-Limited

To use a connection ticket (or connection ticket combined with a receipt/pass) you must enter the connecting entrance by the time limit written on the connection ticket.
If the time limit has been exceeded or your vehicle enters from an invalid entrance, the connection ticket becomes invalid and you must pay the toll again.
If using ETC, you must enter within the fixed period of time for the connection.

ETC Connection Information

ETC automatic toll payment can be used on all routes connecting to the Hanshin Expressway. Note: When an ETC automatic toll payment is used at any toll gate on the connecting routes, the connection is applied and no additional connection ticket is needed.
(Even if there is a lane for issuing connecting tickets at the exit, you do not need to go into that lane.)

Note: Even with the same starting points or ending points, the distance traveled on the expressway will vary according to the connecting route used, so the toll amount can vary.
