Progress of Cracking by ASR

ASR (which stands for alkali-silica reaction) is a phenomenon of abnormal swelling caused by reaction between silica contained in the aggregate and alkali components in the cement.
It can cause cracking in the concrete or failure of rebars in the concrete.
Places with serious progress of ASR damage need repair.
ASR damage was studied in detail in the 1980s.
Currently, measures are taken to control it.
However, ASR also causes damage to structures that had no anti-ASR measures as they were constructed before that.
